Barrie – MP Patrick Brown, MP Bruce Stanton and the Honourable Helena Guergis, will be presenting a cheque for almost $1.16 million, on behalf of the Government of Canada, to the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic Board of Trustees.

The funds represent what the school board will receive in GST rebates on school transportation, which was announced in the 2007 Federal budget.

The GST on transportation claims for school boards in Ontario were retroactively denied by the previous Liberal government. In their 2nd federal budget, Canada’s New Government recognizes that the provision of student transportation services by school authorities are to be treated as an exempt activity under the GST/HST.
