Stimulus funding will continue to create jobs, boost local economy

Awenda Provincial Park, ON – Bruce Stanton, Member of Parliament for Simcoe North and the Hon. Aileen Carroll, P.C., MPP Barrie today announced stimulus funding that will benefit local workers and the local economy in Penetanguishene, and improve local infrastructure for years to come.

“Canada and Ontario are jointly working together to get shovels in the ground to revitalize existing assets, while encouraging economic growth and creating new jobs.   I welcome the joint funding of these enhancements to our renowned Awenda Provincial Park”, said MP Bruce Stanton.

“This project is one of 60 across the province that will benefit from the recently announced third wave of joint provincial and federal investments from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund”, said Barrie MPP Aileen Carroll.

“This funding will provide opportunities for building material suppliers and contractors, but the resulting improvements will greatly enhance the quality of the camping experience for all of Awenda’s visitors”, said Awenda’s Park’s Superintendent, Mike Armstrong.

Today’s investment of $175,500 in joint federal and provincial funding will be used to enhance existing park trails and to rehabilitate older structures to make them energy efficient.  The park will be replacing roofs, doors, windows, comfort stations, etc. along with installing solar heating and repairing water damaged areas.

The Government of Canada’s contribution for this project is being provided through the $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, a key component of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which invests in construction-ready infrastructure projects that can be completed by March 31, 2011.

The contribution from the Government of Ontario will be from the two-year, $32.5 billion infrastructure commitment laid out in the 2009 Ontario Budget – Confronting the Challenge: Building Our Economic Future.

To date, the governments of Canada and Ontario have announced over $11 billion in joint funding for more than 2,700 infrastructure projects across the province to stimulate the economy and create jobs. During these challenging economic times, the governments of Canada and Ontario have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and funding into targeted infrastructure projects across the province.
