Bruce Stanton, M.P Appointed To Assistant Deputy Chair Of The Committees Of The Whole

Residents of Simcoe North may be interested to know that M.P. Bruce Stanton was appointed to the position of Assistant Deputy Chair of the Committees of the Whole announced today by Speaker of the House Andrew Scheer.

The Assistant Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole is a member of the panel of chairs and may be appointed by the speaker to chair legislative committee, and may also act in place of the speaker to appoint other members from the panel to chair legislative committees.
The Assistant Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole may attend caucus meetings, participate in debate and vote. In accordance with recent practice, they generally avoid taking part in debate, but exercise their right to vote when not presiding over the House.

M.P. Stanton had the following to say on his appointment, “I am honoured to have been chosen as the Assistant Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole. I congratulate my honourable colleagues Denise Savoie and Barry Devolin on their appointments, and look forward to working with them along with The Honourable Speaker of the House Andrew Scheer, to improve the tenor of debate in the House of Commons.

M.P. Stanton was one of eight Members of Parliament who ran for the position of Speaker of the House on June 2nd. Andrew Scheer was successfully elected the new Speaker of the House. Today, along with MP Stanton’s appointment, MP Denise Savoie was appointed as Deputy Speaker and MP Barry Devolin was appointed Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole.
