Bruce Stanton, M.P. for Simcoe North was named as the Chair for the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development (AANO) today.
“I’m very pleased to be given this opportunity to work with my colleagues from all parties on the important issues facing aboriginal people and northern communities” commented Stanton.
In this 40th Parliament the Committee will be considering legislation directed to it by the House, likely including amendments to the Indian Oil and Gas Act and the Family Homes on Reserves and Matrimonial Interests or Rights Act. The Committee will also be considering topics for study that fall within its mandate, with the view of making recommendations to the House and the Government.”
