TIMMINS, Ontario —Simcoe North MP, Bruce Stanton, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for FedNor, today announced a FedNor investment of $2.5 million in support of seven initiatives benefiting the residents of Timmins and Northeastern Ontario. “The Timmins region is a vital contributor to the economic well-being of Northern Ontario and to Canada as a whole,” said Mr. Stanton. “Providing enhanced broadband services will lead to greater opportunities for small business owners and entrepreneurs and ensure residents have access to vital health care and educational training services.” “Canada’s New Government is committed to fostering a prosperous Northern Ontario by helping communities and businesses grow,” stated Minister Clement. “Today’s investment of $2.5 million will also address current challenges in the forestry industry, as well as youth retention and employment.” More than $2.1 million will be directed to the North Eastern Ontario Communications Network (NEOnet) to help provide broadband access to 13 unserviced communities in the area. The remaining funding will support economic development activities, forestry-related initiatives and four new youth internships “On behalf of the citizens of Timmins and the other communities benefiting from today’s announcements, I would like to thank Minister Clement and FedNor for their ongoing support,” said Timmins Mayor, Tom Laughren. “I would also like to sincerely thank Mr. Stanton for making the trip here today to personally bring this welcome news.” By supporting the residents of Timmins and Northeastern Ontario through its programs and services, FedNor is opening doors and building futures for a prosperous Northern Ontario.
