About Simcoe North
Covering 2,381 square kilometres and home to more than 111,000 people, the electoral district of Simcoe North encompasses many municipalities, including Midland, Orillia, Penetanguishene, Tay, Tiny, Severn and the Mnjikaning First Nation. Situated in Central Ontario, bordering the beautiful Georgian Bay, Simcoe North offers some of the most picturesque natural views in the province. Attractions include the largest collection of freshwater islands in the world, Ontario`s first European fortress, the Stephen Leacock Museum, the Ontario Provincial Police Museum and of course, Casino Rama. Simcoe North is also home to the headquarters of the OPP, based in Orillia. Visitors to the riding will quickly learn why the area is called Ontario`s Lake Country. Major bodies of water include Lake Simcoe, Lake Couchiching and Bass Lake, which offer beaches, boating and fishing, as well as nature trails for walking and hiking. In the winter months, visitors will find kilometres of well groomed snowmobile and snowshoeing trails, as well as great ice-fishing and skating.
